Newport Harbor Yacht Club, California will be hosting the 2025 Edition 2-4 October. Racing will be in Harbor 20’s, the Clubs 2 person keelboat. Racing is planned to be just outside the Club, so plenty of opportunity to watch the action close up. NHYC hosts the Baldwin Cup in the spring. Now a 2 v 2 event this is one of the must attend events on the US Team Racing Calendar.

USA Corinthian Yacht Club sweep all aside to win the fifth edition of the GLOBAL TEAM RACE REGATTA (GTRR). This year the event was held in Naples, Italy, brilliantly hosted by Reale Yacht Club Canottiere Savoia. This year the event was sponsored by YAMAMAY, CARPISA, JACKED, FERRARELLE and VENTRELLA.    Twelve teams representing Sweden, Belgium, Greece, Italy, Scotland, England the Netherlands, Germany and the USA competed over 3 days in what were difficult and challenging conditions.  With thunder and lightning frequently stopping play, the organisers managed to squeeze the programme into every sailable moment. Ashore the hospitality of the host club and the great city of Naples complemented the tight and demanding racing.

One of the highlights of the regatta was the presentation of a new perpetual trophy for the Global Team Race Regatta donated by New York Yacht Club. New York Yacht Club commissioned Tiffany & Co. to create a custom trophy depicting the action of 2V2 team racing.  The trophy was handcrafted at the Tiffany & Co. hollowware workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island over the course of approximately 12 weeks for a total of 96 hours of labor.  The trophy will be engraved with the winner and host club and displayed in New York Yacht Club between the annul running of the GTRR.  

The hosts passed the GTRR flag on to Newport Harbor Yacht Club in California will be the host club in 2025.

About the Global Team Race Regatta (GTRR):   The Global Team Race Regatta was created in 2018 by 4 original trustees:  New York Yacht Club, Royal Yacht Squadron, European 2K Association and Bayerischer Yacht Club.   The event has two purposes – bring together top team racers from around the world to compete and encourage the growth of team racing around the world.   The event is run annually by host yacht clubs or associations; trustees rotate and are sourced from host yacht clubs and associations.    The current trustees are New York Yacht Club, Royal Yacht Squadron, European 2K Association, RYCC Savoia and Bayerischer Yacht Club.

The Global Team Race Regatta was founded in 2016 as part of a drive to internationalise Keelboat team racing. Based loosley on the principles developed by 2K , the Global Trustees aim to hold an annual event.

The first Global was held at the New York Yacht Club in 2017. The winner was the Royal Thames Yacht Club from the UK.

The next event was held at Cowes, hosted by the Royal Yacht Squadron. The winner was St. Francis Yacht Club (USA)

Covid got in the way and the next event was 2022 with a return to the New York Yacht Club. This time the winner was Newport Harbor Yacht Club (USA)

In 2023 the Global returned to the UK, this time hosted by the Royal Thames at Queen Mary. Newport Harbor retained the title.
